Moving to a New Store Location: Your Update Checklist

Moving your shop? Use this checklist to update your address everywhere it appears in Workstand, so customers, search engines, carriers and tax rates all point to your new store.

Work through each section before and right after your move, and tick items off as you go.

  • Start about two weeks before your move date so changes are ready to go live on moving day.
  • Have your new street address, phone number, hours, and the GPS coordinates of your new storefront handy.
  • Questions at any point? Contact the Client Success Team.

Store location and sales tax

  • Your store location record drives your Store Locator, Contact Us page, local search results, in-store pickup and tax settings, so update it first.

  • In Admin, go to Settings > Website > Store Information and scroll to Store Location(s).

  • Click the green pencil to edit your location, or Add Location if you are keeping both stores open for a while. Full details: Store Location.

    • Address: enter the new street address exactly as it should appear to customers.
    • Phone number: update the shop phone if it is changing.
    • Store hours: confirm hours for the new location, including any grand-opening or moving-week changes.
    • Store Neighborhood Descriptor: enter the new neighborhood, town or shopping center name. This matters for local search.
    • DBA: confirm your Doing Business As name is still correct.
    • Map pin: check that the map marks the right spot. If it doesn't, switch to GPS coordinates, which you can copy from your store's Google Maps URL.
    • Location Inquiries Email/Form: confirm the inquiry email (such as info@ or sales@) or form still goes to someone who checks it.
    • In-Store Pickup: confirm pickup is turned on for the new location, and update the Sales Tax Override if local tax rates differ from your old address.
    • Buy Local Now: keep this checked so the new store appears on Buy Local Now and partner sites. Uncheck it on any location that isn't open to shoppers, such as a warehouse.
    • Display: make sure the new location shows on your Store Locator, and hide the old one once you've moved.

Sales tax

  • Moving can change your tax rate, even within the same town. Go to Settings > Commerce > Sales Tax and confirm the rates for your new address. See Sales Tax.

  • Update the sales tax rate for the new location.
  • Origin-based states only: in the Select origin address box, choose your new store location. If no origin address is selected, tax will be charged based on the destination as long as you are set to collect tax in that state/province. See Origin-Based Sales Tax.
  • Moving to a different state? Check whether your new state is origin-based or destination-based, and talk with a tax professional before you start selling there.

Shipping, delivery and online listings

  • Orders, labels and local listings all lean on your address, so check each one before your first day at the new store.

Shipping and delivery

  • Shipping labels: (for Pro website subscribers) update your ship-from address in your connected Shippo account so labels print with the new return address. See Shipping Labels.
  • Home Delivery zones: in Settings > Fulfillment > Shipping Zones, review the postal codes in each delivery zone and adjust them for the new store's neighborhood.
  • Home Delivery fees: in Settings > Fulfillment > Shipping Methods, check that each shipping rule still charges the right fee for its zone.
  • Curbside pickup: update any pickup instructions, such as where to park or which door to use. See Setting Up Curbside Pickup.
  • Open orders: contact customers with pending pickup or delivery orders to let them know where and when to collect.

Google and online listings

  • Google Business Profile: update your address, hours and phone in your Google Business Profile account. Google may ask you to re-verify the new location.
  • Google Local Inventory Feed: if your store code changes after the move, enter the new code in Settings > Marketing > Google Shopping, then regenerate the Google Local Products File. See Google Shopping.
  • Social profiles: update the address on Facebook, Instagram and other listings such as Yelp and Apple Maps.
  • Website pages: search your site for any page, banner or footer that mentions the old address or directions, and update it in the page editor.
  • Let customers know: add a homepage banner and send an email to your customer list announcing the new location and moving dates.

Suppliers and integrations

  • Supplier accounts: give each supplier and distributor your new ship-to address so purchase orders and stock deliveries arrive at the new store.
  • Supplier Fulfillment: if suppliers ship web orders on your behalf, make sure they have your new return address. See Integrations.

After the move: double-check everything

On your first day at the new store, take 15 minutes to test what customers will see and use.

  • Open your Store Locator and Contact Us pages and confirm the address, phone, hours and map pin are correct.
  • Place a test order with in-store pickup and confirm the right location and sales tax appear at checkout.
  • Search for your shop on Google Maps and confirm the new address shows.
  • Hide or remove the old location from your Store Locator if you haven't already.
