Website Tune-Up Checklist

For Busy Merchants Who Want to Keep Store Profits High

You don’t need a full redesign to make your site work harder for you. This checklist highlights high-impact updates that can be done in short bursts, even if you only have a few minutes at a time.

Keep Your Homepage Fresh

  • Your homepage is your storefront; make sure it reflects what’s happening right now.
    • Update featured products or collections (seasonal, on-sale, or bestsellers).
    • Add a content block/homepage graphic for current promotions or special events.
    • Replace any outdated images or “out of season” content.
    • Check that all links work and go to the correct pages.

Tip: A homepage refresh, best practice is once a month, but at least once per season, keeps customers confident your store is active and trustworthy. 

Ensure Catalog Is Up to Date

  • POS Sync is how your POS and Website communicate. Why is this important? Without confirming mappings, your customer may order a bike and be sent a bell. Maintaining your pending mappings helps maintain your shop's integrity! This should be completed often, at a minimum, once a month! For more information on weekly maintenance, click here
    • Confirm that every product sold online is correctly mapped to the same item in your POS.
    • Check that online orders are updating inventory counts in real time.
    • Review your pending mapping list regularly to avoid errors and overselling.
    • Test a few products to ensure purchases register correctly in your POS.
    • Review brands and products that are not in our Library/Catalog. Ensuring prices are up-to-date.

Strengthen SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

  • Help shoppers find you online with small but powerful improvements.
    • Add unique meta titles and descriptions for each page.
    • Add alt text to all images (describe what’s in the picture), so your site is ADA compliant.
    • Submit your site to Google Search Console, and set up Google Shopping.
    • If you are active on Facebook or Instagram, then use your site links EVERYWHERE, you want to bring your customers to your site & to checkout.

Tip: Think like your customers, what words would you type into Google to find your own products or services?

Communicate Clearly With Customers

  • A trustworthy store is one that keeps customers informed.
    • Review and update your About, Contact, and FAQ pages.
    • Make sure your shipping, returns, and policies are easy to find.
    • Post any holiday hours or closures on all social media with a link to the homepage.
    • Ensure Homepage is updated with sales, closures, and exciting announcements.
    • Add an email sign-up or “special offers” pop-up and once you have the email addresses, USE them! Signing up for email marketing keeps customers coming back.

Tip: The easier it is to contact you, the more likely customers are to buy.

Check Mobile Friendliness

  • Your template and theme are responsive on computer and phone devices. Use our built-in tools to give a flawless finish across all devices. 
    • Be creative and mindful, preview all pages before publishing.
    • Are images properly sized and text easy to read?

Tip: More than half of shoppers browse on their phones.

Track What’s Working

  • You can’t improve what you don’t measure.
    • Connect your store to Google Analytics.
    • Check which products and pages get the most visits and feature them!
    • Monitor search keywords used on your site.

Tip: Small, consistent tweaks based on data always outperform big, one-time overhauls.
